A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, June 11, 2022, in St. Pius X Catholic Church for Joan Monjure Simon, 91, who passed away on June 8, 2022.

Fr. James Brady, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services.

Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Mrs. Simon, a long-time resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late John Monjure and the former Melanie Piraino.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Joan received a B.A. Degree from Ursuline College then attended Tulane University Graduate School of Social Work and graduated with her Master's in 1959. She was elected to the Who's Who in American Colleges & Universities and served as Prefect of the Sodality. Joan also served on the Student Council in various capacities and received several awards in drama. She was active in volunteering in the Lafayette Girl Scout Troops. Joan was President of the University of Southwestern Louisiana Women's Club from 1973 to 1974. She also volunteered at Lafayette General with the prestigious "Pink Ladies", served on committees for PTA functions, and as a volunteer worker for several other charitable organizations. Joan was a retired Social Worker with the Dept. of Social Services in Lafayette for over 34 years. A woman of faith, she faithfully served as a Eucharistic Minister for Our Lady of Fatima and St. Pius X Catholic Churches.

She is survived by her daughters, Michelle Simon Dunaway (Lige) and Nanette Simon Cook (David); grandchildren, David Dunaway, Kevin Dunaway, Elise Dunaway, Clare Cook Autin (Robert), Emily Cook Harris (Andy), John Cook (Jackie), Eleanor Cook Smith (David), and Christopher Cook; great-grandchildren, Mathilde Autin, Cerise Autin, and Sam Cook; and long-time friend & caregiver, Hester John-Louis.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Melanie Piraino Macaluso; father, John William Monjure; and sister, Clare Monjure Aiuvalasit (Tony).

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Saturday, June 11, 2022 beginning at 9:00 AM. A Rosary will be recited at 11:00 AM on Saturday morning in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue, following the Rosary, until 12:30 PM.

Pallbearers will be Lige Dunaway, David Cook, John Cook, Christopher Cook, David Dunaway, and Kevin Dunaway.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Autin, Andy Harris, and David Smith.

The family would like to thank the nurses & caregivers at Pelican Pointe - Maurice and the sitters of Right At Home for their compassionate care. Special thanks to her long-time friend, Nancy Manuel, for her loving thoughtfulness.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joan's memory to CASA of Lafayette or to your charity of choice.
