Stow — Durvard R. Purkhiser, age 73, died May 22, 1988 after a lengthy illness.
Born in Haileyville, Oklahoma, Mr. Purkhiser had been an area resident most of his life. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1975 with thirty-seven years service and was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Mary Purkhiser. He is survived by his sons; Ronald Dean Purkhiser of Munroe Falls, Erick Lee Purkhiser of Los Angeles, California and Michael Ray Purkhiser of Akron; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 825 E. Buchtel Avenue, Akron, where friends may call one-half hour prior to service time with the Reverend Scott Souders officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
