Boyd was born in Salt Lake City on December 2, 1932, to Joseph Lorenzo Lyon and Melva Christensen Lyon. He was 2nd of 4 sons born into that family. His older brother Joseph Leon died shortly after birth and Boyd was raised as the older brother to Kenneth and the late Wendell Lyon. He was raised in Firth Idaho, graduating from high school there. The call to serve in the Air Force came and he sacrificed for his love of country. Honorably he fulfilled a proselytizing Eastern States Mission, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He also graduated from Brigham Young University and was a certified Public Accountant throughout his career, retiring from American Stores.
He married Delpha Deon Biesinger October 17, 1957 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Their union brought a half a dozen boys into their family; Jeff Boyd (Rebecca Thatcher), Arvill Joseph (Stacey Billings), James John (deceased), Jock Biesinger (Brenda Biggs), Jay Karl ( Michele McKee), Jason Lyman (Shelly Schild). Boyd and Deon raised their children in Midvale and Sandy, in homes that his father in law, Arvill Biesinger helped him build.
Boyd spent much of his retirement with his beloved wife. Together they served a church mission to the Kirtland Visitor's Center in Ohio. They also served together in the Logan Temple. They were dedicated rock hounds and found joy in the deserts of Arizona as snowbirds, later in St. George enjoying the warmer weather and visits from family and friends. Boyd also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping with his family.
Boyd loved the Savior, Jesus Christ and often got emotional when discussing the Gospel. He cherished his testimony and served faithfully as a disciple of the Lord. He lived what he believed, and was generous, thoughtful, kind and gentle to others. He was adored by his grandchildren. Never missing a birthday, he mailed out a card with some cash for every family member's birthday. Boyd and Deon loved Bear Lake and facilitated a lifetime of family memories there.
He is survived in life by his wife, and five sons and daughters-in-law. He has 26 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
