He was selected in the fifth round of the 1969 NBA draft by the Boston Celtics but chose instead to begin his professional career in the American Basketball Association (ABA) where he played for the Pittsburgh Pipers / Condors (1969 to 1972) and the Memphis Tams (1972 to 1974), where he was an ABA All-Star three times (1972 to 1974). After leaving the ABA he joined the NBA Milwaukee Bucks for the remainder of the 1974 season and the complete 1975 season. He was inducted into four Hall of Fames, Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame, the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame, the Marquette Hall of Fame and the Brooklyn New York Hall of Fame. In his combined ABA/NBA career he scored 8113 points made 1457 rebounds and made 1561 assists.
