ELM CITY – Charles Lee Harris, Sr., age 75, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. Born in Nash County, NC on November 6, 1946, he was the son of the late Roy Chesson Harris and Margaret Leigh Shearin Harris Landis.

A veteran of the United States Army, Charles served overseas in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot flying both UH-1 Huey's and AH-1 Cobra helicopters. Following his service, he went to work in the transportation sector until he retired from Con-Way Freight, now Con-Way Freight – XPO, with over 20 years of service. Charles enjoyed gardening, helping others in any way he could, and joining his golf buddies for their monthly safety meeting on the eighteenth hole. Most important to Charles was his love for attending his grandchildren's events and activities. Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother and will be missed by all who knew him.

Charles is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Worrell Harris; his son, Charles Lee "Chuck" Harris, Jr. and wife, Traci; his daughter, Misty Pearson and husband, Jamie; his grandchildren, Ollie Pearson, Lucas Pearson, Lainey Harris, Peyton Harris, and Allie Harris; his brother, Roy Wayne Harris and wife, Virginia; his sisters, Annette Harris Lee and husband, Lemuel, Jodie Landis Britton and husband, Tommy, and Jamie Landis Wilson and husband, Bill; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Private Graveside Service will be held at a later date at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Chapel on the Hill Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, June 10, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
