After graduating high school, he enrolled into the Navy in 1948 with his best friend and cousin, Vern Curry. He served on the USS Hamul AD20 where he studied to become an IC Electrician second class. He served in the Navy for 4 years and was honorably discharged, July 24, 1952.
He worked for Western Electric where he met his wife, Kathryn Niederhauser in the summer of 1953. They were married the following year, June 19, 1954. They were sealed as husband and wife, April 12, 2008. He retired from Mt. Bell in 1983.
Robert and Kathryn spent 64 years together traveling, boating, camping, skiing, and spending time with family. Robert had a testimony of Jesus Christ and enjoyed listening to the scriptures as his eyesight failed. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening, and won Most Beautiful Yard Award in Bountiful, Utah.
He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sister, Gloria Dean Hegstrom. He is survived by his daughter, Tracey (Paul) Starley; daughter, Becky (Bill) Sorensen; grandchildren: Aaron Starley, Meagan (Reece) Staheli and Mckenzie (Randan) Woods; great grandchildren: Parker, Macee, Kinlee, Jake, Emma, and Oliver.
What a great reunion he is having with his wife, Kathryn, his parents, sister, and other family members. You have left a hole in our hearts and lives. We love you and miss you. Thank you for a lifetime of memories.
Graveside Services will be held at the Tonaquint Cemetery.
