September 27, 1967 - June 6, 2022
Kay Blackmon evolved over the last several years into "Gammy." Her day to day, hour to hour, and second to second revolved around her grandchildren. They were her proudest accomplishments. Coming a close second to her grandbabies, as she called them, was Joe Blackmon. She lived one day shy of their 37th wedding anniversary. He was her best friend. They took care of each other through their ups and downs and thick and thins. She loved her children very much. She would have done anything for her kids. Besides shower them with endless love, she instilled so many good qualities in them. She loved all of her family. For the rest of the community, she was known for her devoted love for the kids at Corner High School, or for her friendly demeanor at the grocery store. Most importantly of all things, she loved her Lord. She was a God-fearing and God-loving woman, a God she trusted and followed and now is rejoicing with in Heaven. She praised and thanked Him everyday for His unfailingly love and blessings in life.
Kay was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Henderson; grandparents, Katherine and Erskine James; sister, Teresa Pierce; stepfather, Johnny Busby; father-in-law, Terry Blackmon, Sr.
The family will receive friends in the chapel at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be in the chapel Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Corner, Alabama.
