BROWN, Stephen H., age 70, of Waynesville and formerly of Maryland and California, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022, at Kettering Hospital.

Family-oriented, quiet, caring, giving, and thoughtful, Stephen loved music and was a talented drummer. From his late teenage years until his early 30s, Stephen played in a band that he loved and excelled at. He and his band mostly played rock and roll covers, but they also had their original songs. Over the years, he immensely enjoyed walking and riding his bike on neighborhood streets. He enjoyed walking so much that he got a job at one point that involved walking for several miles and delivering flyers on foot. He also loved watching movies and MeTV, especially older films and shows. He had quite a collection of movies, with his favorites being those starring John Wayne, Andy Griffith, and old westerns. Of course, he never missed watching his beloved Cincinnati Bengals on TV whenever they played.

Earlier in his life, it became a tradition for Stephen to travel out west every year to Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Colorado with his parents, grandparents, and extended family for sightseeing and trout fishing adventures. On one particular adventure, Stephen traveled with his dad, his aunt, and his aunt's husband up Engineer's Pass in Colorado, a restricted road due to its extremely rugged terrain. Traveling in a VW Bug, without four-wheel drive and with brakes going out, they ventured up to 14,000 feet in elevation on a muddy, narrow, barely passable road. While tensions were high among one or two, Stephen laughed hysterically, feeling it was highly adventuresome, and loved every minute of the trip. For the last ten years or so, Stephen traveled back to Maryland to meet his friends, where they enjoyed trips up and down the coastline for two weeks each year. His many travel adventures will always be remembered as some of his favorite activities throughout his life. He will also be remembered for his beautiful handwriting and how thoughtful he was each Christmas season for writing and sending out beautiful Christmas cards to his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Howard Brown; his mom, Betty Brown; step-mom Millie Brown; grandparents, Findley & Laura Brown and James & Lizzie McKeever; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members. He is survived by three aunts, Joan (Dale) Dakin, Janice (Elmer) Powell, and Charlotte (Bob) Lucas.

The family will receive friends 12 - 1 PM Sunday, June 12, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. A celebration of life service will immediately follow the visitation on Sunday at 1 PM at the funeral home, followed by a committal service at Miami Cemetery in Corwin. Celebrant Katie Mackoway will be officiating the services.
