Willis Leonard Singletary
Jun 19, 1926 - Jun 6, 2022

Willis Leonard Singletary, 95, of Thomasville, Georgia passed away June 6, 2022, at 1:20 pm. Graveside services will be Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Laurel Hill Cemetery Lot 33 section G at 2:00 pm with Jimmy Clanton officiating. Visitation will be held at Allen and Allen Funeral Home Wednesday evening, June 8, 2022, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral arrangements are being managed by Allen and Allen Funeral Home.

Willis was born June 19, 1926, to Wallace Fleet Singletary and Ethel Grace McDaniel Singletary, the third child of six.

He attended Ochlocknee schools and graduated in 1947 after serving in the Navy during the height of World War II. During his high school years, he played basketball and ran track winning a first-place medal in the 440 relay at the statewide competition. He continued playing baseball and softball from the time he graduated high school until he reached his forties. He coached in the YMCA baseball league until his sons reached the age to play high school baseball.

June 19, 1948, he married Sara Frances Godwin Singletary and enjoyed 64 years of marriage until her death January 3, 2013.

Their marriage was blessed with three sons: Harold Wade in 1953, Joel Keith in 1956 and Willis Michael in 1959.

As a resolute Father to his three sons, he participated in any activity they joined. He was active in The Central Booster's Club for over thirty years; he was proud of being a part of the spearhead group that raised funds and built the Jacket's Nest on the original Central High School campus. Willis and Sara served as chaperones for every Central High School dance from 1968 to 1980, well after Mike graduated. Willis was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Thomasville for 74 years and served as an usher for several years and then served as the greeter for the Senior Adult Scholl School always ready with a friendly handshake for the men and a hug and a kiss on the cheek for the ladies. Service to others is what made Wills the happiest; being it growing vegetables in his garden to share or building ramps for the disabled to access their homes or being the Senior Adult door greeter at First Baptist Church.

Willis is survived by his three sons: Harold (Greg), Keith (Allison) and Mike (Teresa); grandchildren Hollie and Clint West, Joel and Dawn Singletary, Keisly Exum, Taft and Emily Singletary, Jared Hagler Singletary; Reid and Bhavi Singletary, Carson and Braxton Kimbrell, Meg and Harry Bankston; great grandchildren Morgan Exum, Pheonix Singletary, Corban Cone, Trenton Singletary, Sara Sullivan Cone, Brayden Exum, Layla Singletary, Sloan Singletary and Sutton West. As well, he is survived by sisters Louise Donnelly (Warner Robins) and Glenda Hartnett (Warner Robins). Nieces Ginger Norman, Ann Corban, Jane Guy, Karen King, Gina Huckabee, Laura Godwin, Kristy Harper, Terry Singletary Sherman, Carla Clark, Karen Archie, and Donna Hartnett and nephews Al Kimbrough, Danny Singletary and Joe Godwin.

Willis was preceded in death by sister Grace and brothers Louis and Gene.
