Vickie was born April 30, 1956, she was the daughter of Raymond L. Prescott and Doris Jo Shappert in Pocatello, Idaho. She passed away in her Pocatello home on May 31, 2022, from complication of Ovarian cancer with her husband and daughter Andrea by her side. Vickie has one older sister Jackie and one younger sister Nancy. Vickie was raised in Pocatello where she attended Washington Elementary School, Hawthorne Junior High School, and Highland High School, she graduated in 1974. She was a proud Highland Ram. Vickie always talked of her time when she was a cheerleader at Hawthorn Jr. High and when she was a Lassie at Highland High. Vickie attended Idaho State University for one year, then began a career in the insurance industry working for Farm Bureau Insurance as a coder in Pocatello and then an insurance underwriter while living in Salt Lake City. When the family moved back to Pocatello in 1990. Vickie studied and received her insurance license where she worked in the office of a couple different insurance agents. She had so many friends from her school years, and through out life. Her warm smile and personality made her an instant friend wherever she went. She was loved by so many and a friend to everyone.
Vickie caught Steve's eye one January day in 1977 and the rest was a love story for 45 years. Vickie married Steve Wheeler May 20, 1977, in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. What a fun filled adventure this began for both. They loved each other and cared for each other every day. Steve always said how beautiful Vickie was. Vickie and Steve have three wonderful children, Andrea , April, and Marc. For the first two years of marriage, they lived in Pocatello. Then 10 ½ years in Salt Lake with Steve's employment. They moved back to Pocatello in 1990 where they raised their family and she lived until her passing. Vickie loved her children and was a very nurturing mother. She would call herself the sissy mom, because it didn't take much for the kids to sweet talk her into whatever they wanted. She was always their biggest cheerleader in what ever the children were involved in. Vickie loved her 8 grandchildren: Todd, Elisabeth, Evan, Anastasia, Dalton, Nyla, Joseph, and Jacob. She spoiled them with hugs and treats whenever she could. Just like with her children, she was a sissy grandma and proud of it, but what grandma isn't.
Vickie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Saints with a strong conviction of her Savior Jesus Christ. I am sure He welcomed her home on May 31 st where she is now free of the physical pain, she endured for so many years. Vickie had many different church callings throughout her life. The one she enjoyed the most was serving in the primary. She loved teaching the young children the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Just like with her own children and grandchildren in her loving way she would nurture and teach them. She always had a soft spot in her heart for her primary children. Vickie and Steve with their children enjoyed many activities and trips together. It didn't matter if it was a family outing, camping, vacation, movie at home, birthday, or holiday dinner with extended family, so many good memories were made that will be cherished forever. Vickie loved to go shopping for the children, the grandchildren, or herself. It was her happy place. Shopping was always involved in part of all family trips. Sometimes it meant buying an extra suitcase to bring things home. Her warm and welcoming home was always decorated from these trips. She was asked by one of her nurses what her favorite memory is; her reply was, I have so many, it is hard to choose!
The family would like to thank all the many healthcare workers who provide care for Vickie over the years, but especially the last few as she struggled with cancer. The nurses and staff at the Portneuf cancer center are awesome and we are so grateful for the kind loving way they helped her. The staff at Pain and Spine Specialist of Idaho as they tried to manage her pain, especially Tyler Hepworth who went above and beyond the call to comfort and relieve her pain and suffering. In the last few weeks of her life Heritage Home Health and Hospice worked with her and responded to her every need. Her nurse Kelsey was so compassionate and helpful to her needs and stayed with the family in the end to make sure everything was taken care of. The family so appreciates all our friends, neighbors, and church members for all they have done providing comfort, care, and a shoulder to lean on during Vickie's illness. We can't say thank you enough for all you do. We would also like thank the staff at Manning Wheatley Funeral Home for their kind and compassionate service helping us through this process.
