Funeral Service for Retired SFC Milton R. Carroll 91, of Caldwell, Texas will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022, 12:00 noon at Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church in Killeen, Texas.
Burial with Full Military Honors will follow the service at the Killeen Memorial Park Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service (11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) at the church.
Mr. Carroll passed away May 29, 2022, in Waco, Texas.
Milton Raymond Carroll was born January 6th, 1931, to the late Richard and Ophelia Carroll in Caldwell, Texas, as one of thirteen children.
Milton received his formal education in the Caldwell Public School System. He received Christ at an early age and attended Seven Star Missionary Baptist church in Caldwell, Texas.
At 19, Milton joined United States Armed Forces. He served in the Korean and Vietnam War. He worked as a Field Artillery Crewman, Tactical Communication Chief, and Manager/Cook at the NCO club (Non-Commissioned Officer). He served his country proudly in several tours to Germany, Korea and Indochina and was stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and finally Fort Hood, Texas. While serving, Milton married Jewel Manuel in 1954 and maintained a happy union throughout his military career. Milton retired from the Army in October of 1972 after serving 22 years honorably.
Affectionately known as "Uncle Hambone, Mr. Yacka, Daddy and Grandpa'', Milton began a post military life in Killeen, Texas on Jefferies Avenue as an entrepreneur opening a store, Carroll's TV Rentals and Repairs. Later he started a successful construction business and built a house on Love Road, the perfect spot for his ever-growing family to visit and his grandkids to come and play. Milton and Jewel attended Anderson Chapel A.M.E Church and Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church in Killeen, Texas. The two served faithfully as choir members and ushers.
2006 found Milton and Jewel relocating to Waco, Texas to live amongst their daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren. There the family took care of Jewel until her passing in 2011. Milton and Jewel were lovingly united in marriage for 56 years.
Milton ultimately found his way back to Caldwell to live out his days peacefully and happy on "the hill". His daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other relatives gathered in Caldwell often to eat, laugh and create lifelong memories. It was here Milton resided until his passing, May 29th, the same day as his beloved Jewel 11 years earlier.
Milton is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Ophelia Carroll, wife Jewel Carroll, son Roy Carroll, great-grand daughter Journee Griggs, four brothers Richard Dell Carroll, James Earl Carroll Sr., Lee Marion Carroll, Malvin Carroll and four sisters Jerline Robinson, Gladys Manuel, Ruthie Mae Rivers, and Edna Wright.
Milton is survived by his daughters Pearl Tyrone, Gwen Jackson, Jackie Gaines, Janice Carroll, 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, three sisters Rubye Middleton, Dorothy Spencer, Teresa Sims and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The Carroll family would especially like to thank Leon Chisolm and Chisolm's Family Funeral Home for lovingly taking care of our family during this time.
