Joyce Veda Abel from St. Louis Park passed away peacefully in her home on March 15, 2022 with her children Jedediah and Renanah and her closest friend's daughter, Grace Wagner, at her bedside. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Mona Abel and her sister, Linda. Originally from New York City, Joyce found her way to Minneapolis by way of Chicago, Two Harbors and Eau Claire. She was whip smart and had a wicked sense of humor. Never shy with her opinion, her New York personality was a thing to behold. In Two Harbors, MN and Eau Claire, WI she set up birthing classes and worked with midwives to improve access to care and prenatal health of the community. She successfully worked as a nurse and then ARNP, set up colon cancer screening programs at Honeywell and was a Professor at St. Catherine's School of Nursing for many years. While there she helped nursing students from war-torn countries take the NCLEX licensing exam and set up a program that doubled the passing scores for this group of students. She had unbounding love for her grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Jedediah Kaufman (Deborah Savran); and daughter, Renanah Kaufman Lehner (Randall Lehner); as well as sister, Cora Abel; niece, Leah Abel; and her grandchildren, Hannah, Lilah, Wyatt, Ruby and Levi. Graveside service FRIDAY, March 18, 2022 at 11:00am at ADATH CHESED SHEL EMES CEMETERY, 3740 Winnetka Ave. N., Crystal. Also available on zoom, email [email protected] for the link.
