Barbara Garner (Knibb)
Friday, September 14th, 1928 - Saturday, May 21st, 2022

On Saturday, May 21, 2022, we lost the glue to our extended family with the death of our Mom, Grandmom, and GGMa. Barbara Jean Knibb Garner, 93, of Roanoke, Virginia, left her worldly home for her Heavenly home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rebecca and Leroy Knibb; her husband, Bill Clinton Garner; daughter, Julia Mallett; and siblings, Leroy Knibb Jr. and Sara Lou Hancock.

Barbara leaves behind three married daughters, Jennifer Wacenske (Bill), Rebecca Watts (Blake) and Cynthia Garger (Butch); and former son-in-law, Robert Mallett (Dianne); six grandchildren, Joshua Mallett (Annie), Amber Peterson (Josh), Eric Wacenske (Amanda), Emma Watts (Brian Jigarjian), Colin Watts, and Julia Watts; and four great-grandchildren, Robert and Virginia Mallett, and Alina and Aaron Wacenske.

Barbara grew up during the depression and lived through World War II. She was a proud graduate of Jefferson High School, Class of 1945. Barbara was a modern woman for her generation, working outside of the home until as late as 2009 while raising her family. She loved interfacing with people and sharing stories, organizing Jefferson High School reunions, cooking and devising recipes, knitting, cross stitch, crossword puzzles, playing bridge and traveling with her family.

Barbara was philanthropic with her time in service to the Lions Club, Meals on Wheels, Good Samaritan Hospice, driving sick children and their families to medical facilities, and she experienced deep satisfaction in being a Democratic poll registrar for Roanoke County. We wish time spent with those we love could last forever, and in our hearts, it will.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 13, 2022, at Oakey's South Chapel with the Reverend Donna Hopkins Britt officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at Oakey's South Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.oakeys.com.
Arrangements entrusted to Oakey's South Chapel, Roanoke, Va., (540) 989-3131.
