William (Bill) West of Rollinsford, NH, died at his home on Saturday, May 28, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was 82 years old.

Bill was born in St. Johnsbury, VT on October 23,1939, the son of the late Vivian (Castonguay) and Irving West.
He graduated from Berwick Academy in 1957 and enrolled in the US Air Force serving as a Survival Equipment Specialist. Upon discharge from the Air Force Bill was accepted into the apprentice program at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, beginning his career in Shop 38 as a Marine Machinist, then spending many years working as a mechanical systems Planner & Estimator. After taking an early retirement from the Shipyard Bill worked as a mechanic/bus driver for Bolduc Transportation. He also delivered flowers for Sweet Meadows Flower & Gift Shop.

Bill was a volunteer firefighter on the Rollinsford Fire Department for 30 years retiring as Deputy Chief. He coached boys' basketball at Rollinsford Grade School and baseball in the Rollinsford/South Berwick League.

Bill was a man of deep faith and prayer serving many roles in his church community. He was a member of St. Joseph men's prayer group, couples' prayer group, and he and his wife Gail were involved in marriage ministry for many years.

Bill was an easy-going guy, always willing to lend a hand, from snow blowing his neighbors driveways to transporting his grandchildren to different events. He was kind and gentle in his personality. He had a great sense of humor which he carried through his illness. He loved his family and especially enjoyed his role as Papa to his grand and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Gail (Gregoire) West, his sons Jeffrey West and his wife Robin of Berwick, ME; Scott West and his fiancée Gina Whitehead of Rochester; his daughter Sherri Grassie and her husband Chris of Somersworth; 8 grandchildren: Delani Townsend and her husband Mitch, Emrey West; Jonathan and Christina Grassie; Cory James, Libby, Sophie, and Gabe West; 2 great-grandchildren: Naomi James and Arthur Townsend.

He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Roland West, and his sister Bette Ann Gallant.

Visiting hours will be from 4:00 to 7:00pm Monday June 6th at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on June 7th at St. Mary Church, 440 Church St., Rollinsford, NH. Burial will follow in New Town Cemetery in Rollinsford.
