Curtis Lewis was born December 26, 1934, to Alfonso Lewis and Lillian Stewart in Sallis, Mississippi. Sallis is also where he attended school and at an early age confessed his belief in Christ at Macedonia Baptist Church. Curtis was preceded in death by his wife, Helen and daughter, Debra.
On August 20, 1955, Curtis married his beloved Helen Grace Fluker, in Vaiden, Mississippi. They relocated to Chicago, Illinois where they were blessed with three daughters. Curtis worked many places throughout his life. He always worked diligently to support family; both immediate and extended. Early in his work career, he worked as a butcher and truck driver. He eventually started his own pest control business, while simultaneously working as a supervisor for the City of Chicago's Streets and Sanitation Department. Curtis retired in June 1999. Soon after retirement, he joined Trinity United Church of Christ of Chicago where he remained a member until his passing.
Curtis, Curt, Pops, Bruh, Dog, Roach Man…all beloved names given to a man known for his warm smile and generous spirit. He was generally a content man who seldom complained. Whenever asked how he was doing he'd respond, "Everything's good" or "I'm good to go". He loved fishing, grilling, and hanging out in his garage. Wherever Curtis lived his garage became the neighborhood hangout. His garage is where men from every station of life came to watch a game, have a beer, talk trash, or just sit for a while in a safe, non-judgmental space. And if you showed up at the right time you might get a chance to enjoy some of his famous ribs. "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself" (Matt. 22:39) is how Curtis lived his life.

Curtis is survived by his daughters: Bobbie Trask of Chicago, Illinois, and Michelle (Albert Sr.) Macon of Tracy, California. Curtis is also survived by three grandchildren: Albert Jr. (Alba), Bryant, Cydney; and two great-grandchildren: Alayna and Ayden; six siblings: Alice Bankston of Troy, New York, Joe (Sue) Lewis, Sam (Dorothy) Lewis, Alonso (Mattie) Lewis of Sallis, Mississippi, Alberta Pierce and Pearl Stewart of Chicago, Illinois. As well as a host of relatives and friends to cherish his memory.
