He was born Sept. 19, 1890, in Wooster, the son of Charles and Anna Hummer Barnhart.
"Barney", as he was bettero-known, was a former Ashland High School coach and produced many great teams and stars while coaching here and at Findlay College, his alma mater where he served as coach for several years.
Married Sept. 13, 1915, to Rilla J. Metcalf, who survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Katherine Stevenson of Wolcottville, Inc., Mrs. Josephine Dionne of Ashland, Mrs. Rosemary Marzilli of Canton, Mrs. Patricia Sennett of Odgen, Utah and Mrs. Natalie Sonnett of Findlay; a sister, Mrs. Pearl Knepp of Rittman; a brother, Frank Barnhart Sr., of Bloomdale; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Barnhart served in World War I and was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge No. 227 of Findlay.
Private funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Denbow Funeral Home with Rev. Royal Kear of Mansfield Church of God officiating. Burial will be in the Hayesville Cemetery where the American Legion will participate in the graveside services.
Masonic services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Denbow Funeral Home.
