Audrey Geraldine Brown, 93, of Douds, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at the Prestige Care Center in Fairfield, Iowa.

Audrey Geraldine Brown was born January 8, 1929 to Floyd Wilson Ferrel and Beryl Levina Ransom Ferrel.

She graduated from Douds High School with the class of 1947, and married Franklin D. Brown on June 16, 1947.

Audrey was the proud mother of five children: Gary, Dean, Debora, Timothy and James. Audrey and Franklin later divorced, and Franklin passed away in 1974.

Always hard at work with raising her family, tending and harvesting the garden to help provide for her family. She would even sew their clothes and often helped with the family sawmill as well.

After Audrey and Franklin divorced, she began working at the Good Samaritan home in Keosauqua. She was a dedicated employee until her retirement at the young age of 82. Audrey bought an old house in Bonaparte and with the help of her father, remodeled and reworked it to make it her home. Her flower beds were always lovely and well maintained, and her neighbors looked forward to her annual yard sale where they would purchase starts of her flowers and plants.

After her retirement, she volunteered at the neighborhood Center in Keosauqua where she enjoyed helping folks find the clothing and other goods they needed.

At age 85, she felt she could no longer maintain her yard and gardens to her standards, so she sold her house and moved to Country Lane Apartments in Keosauqua, Iowa. She lived there for four years before a stroke took her ability to walk and she moved to Sunnybrook Living Care Center in Fairfield, Iowa

Left to cherish her memory is her son, James C. Brown and daughter, Deb Greenfield; her grandchildren, Audrey (Jason) Hixson, Sarah Greenfield, Emily (Tylor) Pilcher, Kaylin (Chance) Wilcox, Josh Brown, and Janie Brown (Logan Smeltser); 14 great grandchildren; her brothers, Eugene (Margaret) Ferrel and Jay (Shirley) Ferrel-Smith; one sister, Marlene Ferrel, as well as many extended family and friends.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, three sons, Gary D. Brown, Dean F. Brown, and Timothy L. Brown; one son-in-law, Michael H. Greenfield; four sisters, Evon Brobston, Eleanor Hootman, Ethel Bishop, and Ederyle Ortery, as well as two brothers, Donald and James Ferrel.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2022, at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, Iowa with Pastor Phil Campbell officiating. Burial will be held in the Leando Cemetery near Douds, Iowa, immediately following the service. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua. Memorial contributions in Audrey's honor may be directed to the Leando Cemetery Association. Friends may leave online condolences at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
