She was born Marlene Joanne Urdahl on November 25, 1931 on a farm 15 miles northwest of Clark. Her parents were Melvin and Florence (Macer) Urdahl. She was one of 5 children born in the family, Willis, Bob, Lois, and Donald. She attended the Woodland School through the 8th grade and then attended high school at Clark.

She met and later married Bob Johnson on March 9, 1949 in Wayzata, MN. The couple moved to a place that Bob had rented, even though there was no electricity or running water. They lived on various farms the next few years. The couple did settle on the farm in Merton Township where Marlene has lived until a couple of weeks ago. Bob died on June 25, 2011.

While living on the farm it was not uncommon to see Marlene helping on the farm, whether it was feeding the livestock, working in the garden, dispatching and doing the books for Johnson Trucking, and driving a truck hauling cattle. She loved to read, bake cookies and garden. Marlene also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, jig saw puzzles and being on the computer mainly playing solitaire.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church at Clark. She was baptized and confirmed in the Willow Lake Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Marlene is survived by her three sons, Robert Jr. "Bob" (Melody) Johnson of Willow Lake, Dennis (Lisa) Johnson and James "Jim" (LeAnn) Johnson of Clark, 7 grandchildren, Elton (Sara) Johnson, Jason (Amber) Johnson, Travis, Taylor, and Jeny Johnson, Michaela (Jeremy) Meinders, and Lucas Johnson., 8 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She also leaves a step-brother, Richard Waxdahl of Vista, CA, and sisters-in-law, Joann Urdahl and Sheila Day both of Watertown.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and siblings, Willis, Bob, Lois and Don and other extended family members.
