James Bernard Cooley, renowned educator, administrator, and community leader, departed this life on January 16, 2008, at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, Richmond, VA.

He is survived by two daughters, Barbara A. Cooley of Alexandria, VA and Carolyn Cooley Joyner of Washington, DC; one grandson, Damon Lee IV of Washington, DC; a sister, Rosa Jean Seldon, Washington, DC; two brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family received friends on Sunday, January 20, 2008, from 3pm to 6pm at Brown's Funeral Service Memorial Chapel. Funeral services were held on Monday, January 21, 2008, at 11am from St. Paul's Memorial Chapel, Lawrenceville, VA, with interment in the church cemetery. Father Harry V. Nevels officiated.

Brown's Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
