Matthew D. Rodgers, 50, passed away peacefully at his home in Enterprise on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. Matt was a life-long educator, having served as a teacher, coach, principal, and community college president. Matt loved his community, and he lived for the opportunity to serve others.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Enterprise with Dr. Ben Bowden officiating. Private interment will follow at New Brockton Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 A.M. until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ESCC Foundation for the President Matthew D. Rodgers Scholarship, c/o Chellye Stump, PO Box 1300, Enterprise, AL 36331.

Matt started his career as an educator at Zion Chapel High School, where he served as a history teacher and coach for two years. He then moved to Andalusia High School, where he served for four years as a teacher and coach. In 2001, he accepted a teaching and coaching position at Enterprise High School, where he remained until he was selected as assistant principal in 2007. In 2011, he was selected as principal of Enterprise High School. In 2017, he became the sixth president of Enterprise State Community College where he served until his retirement in May 2022.

Matt is a graduate of New Brockton High School. He attended the University of Alabama, earning a bachelor's degree in Social Science. He later attended Troy University at Dothan, earning a Master's in Educational Leadership.

Matt was preceded in death by his father and mother, D.W. "Wink" and Linda Rodgers.

Survivors include his wife, Stacy Rodgers; son, Liam Rodgers; brother, J.P. Sawyer (Keely), Enterprise; niece and nephews, Ella Sawyer, Lint Sawyer, and Brack Sawyer.
