Sonja Williams

Sonja Marie Williams died Thursday morning, August 17, 2000, at home with her family by her side after an extended illness.

She was born on June 19, 1936, in Wyandotte, Michigan, to Francis and Margot Jacobson. She was raised in Ontario, California and graduated with a B. A. degree from Loretto Heights College in Denver.

During her first teaching assignment in Lewistown, she met her husband, Gary Williams. They moved to Dillon, where she became active in the Catholic Church, Jayceens, Meals on Wheels, Women's Resource Center and the Bargain Basement.

One of her most significant contributions to the community was her position for many years as the curator of the Beaverhead County Museum where she was instrumental in implementing its new archiving system.

She was preceded in death by her son, Luke.

Survivors include her husband; children and spouses of Denver; La Crescenta, California; Temecula, California; brothers and a sister; her parents and two grandchildren.

Mass of the Resurrection was held Monday, August 21 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Dillon.

The family has asked that memorials be made to the McDonald Family Place in Butte and the Dillon Hospice.
