All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream. Kassanndra Marie Cantrell was a beautiful dream. As with dreams, she held a magic that infused the space around her, always changing things and people for the better. She was one of the six impossible things you could believe before breakfast; and she was magnificent. Kasey emerged, new and full of wonder, with her twin brother Robert by her side on May 25, 1987. Born in Agana Heights, Guam to Marie Smith and Jeff Cantrell she was one half of an amazing duo. Childhood was spent blending reality and dreams, making Kasey singular, and a bright light of creativity. As a girl, she loved horror films, scary stories, and oddities. She cherished the strange and unusual, gravitating towards gothic tales, vintage styles, and sometimes the macabre. Kasey grew into a woman who was herself strange and unusual, in the most delightful way. If it is true that the more you like yourself, the less you are like anyone else, which makes you unique, then Kasey was unique beyond measure. She could stay up, well into the twilight hours, playing the "What If" game with her twin, tell you exactly what shade of lipstick would complement your vintage attire, and take you to all the best thrifting spots. She was vintage, she was retro, she was classic. She was also endlessly inquisitive. When you're curious, you find lots of interesting things to do. Kasey spent her whole life becoming curiouser and curiouser. Whip smart, she could wear people down with facts and easily confirm or prove a point. She loved getting lost, whether it be in books, old films, among the rooms of The Haunted Mansion, or in the Hollywood Hills with her mother. Kasey always found an adventure waiting for her when she let herself get lost or indulged curiosity. At the time of her death, she was preparing to get lost in motherhood. It suited her, motherhood, and venturing into this new brave unknown. For Kasey, every moment spent pregnant became the new best moment of her life. She took to it like a bird to the sky and would have taught her children about all the important things: love, life, and The Spaniels. She would tell them when you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionable. They would have the courage to be their own wholly unique selves because they would have learned from the best example. When they came home at night and sang their "doh doh doh doh doh" echoes from "Goodnight Sweetheart", just as Kasey and Robert had done as children, they would feel it. They would look at her, with their child wonder, and know they were home. Kasey was braver than she believed, stronger than she seemed, and smarter than she thought. She knew that it is a happiness to wonder; it is a happiness to dream. On August 25, 2020 Kasey's dream on earth abruptly ended and her dreams in the Summerland began. Kasey was an endless surprise, she was happiness, she was wonderous dreams, and she will be endlessly missed. Everyone parts with everything eventually, my dear; the wish is just that it had not been so soon. Those who are left behind, who loved with a love that was more than love, are her mother Marie Smith; father Jeff Cantrell; stepfather Anthony Gunning; stepmother Sonia Cantrell; her life-long partner in crime Robert Cantrell; siblings Logan and Ashlyn Cantrell; aunts and uncles Greg and Stacy Cantrell and Christ and Stephanie Cantrell; and her grandmother Dorothy Cantrell. Preceding her in death are her grandparents John and Margaret Smith and Elwood Cantrell, whom she loved greatly. Kasey will be celebrated privately and buried near family at Sumner Cemetery. I hate to leave you, but I really must say, goodnight, sweetheart, goodnight.
