Tommy was an independent truck driver for 45 years. He received numerous awards for his work ethic. He made many friends during his career and all his trucking friends knew him as "The FBI".
He is survived by the love of his life, Carolyn Jean (Cruce) Smith. They have been married for 55 years. They have two children, a son Tommy Jasper Smith and a daughter Carol Lynn (Cason) Padgett, one granddaughter, Anita Dorman and three great grandchildren and one sister, Lavone Ford of Middleburg.
Tommy took great pride in mowing his large lawn on his John Deere. He also enjoyed sitting on his front porch everyday as many people wave to him as they drove by.
Lastly, he loved his Florida Gators football. He never missed watching a game.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 2, 2022 with Pastor Jerry Thrower from Central Baptist Church in Orange Park , where Tommy attended, officiating services. A graveside prayer at Peoria Cemetery in Orange Park to follow.
