Evelyn Coleman Brown passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at her home on May 12, 2022. Evelyn was born January 9, 1925 at Jefferson Island, La. to William J. and Marguerite (Hinkley) Coleman. She graduated from Mount Carmel Academy in New Iberia and attended SLI (now ULL) before working as an elementary school teacher in Breaux Bridge. Evelyn married the love of her life, Perry Lawrence Brown, in 1946. She and Perry were blessed with almost fifty years of marriage, during which they enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and traveling together in their Airstream travel trailer. Evelyn was always there to brighten the lives of others and had a special way of making even the most ordinary moments in life memorable. She could turn any gathering into a party and would likely be the last one left on the dance floor. Evelyn loved documenting life and often carried a camera in hand requesting smiles from people she encountered throughout the day. She never met a stranger and would have long conversations with people she had just met. Evelyn was a consummate volunteer with a "can do" attitude who was honored as a Volunteer Activist in 1977. Some of the organizations closest to her heart were the Phi Mu sorority house at LSU, Fest for All and the Baton Rouge Art League. She also served as a docent and avid supporter of the LSU Rural Life Museum well into her 90's. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers John and Charles Coleman, husband Perry and son Stephen P. Brown. Evelyn's deep joy for life and fighting spirit were present even in her final days and will live on in the hearts of all those that loved her. The family would like to express gratitude to her caregiver Kim Edwards. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Evelyn's name to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Peter's Church in New Iberia or the LSU Rural Life Museum. Visitation will take place at 10:00am Saturday May 21, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2250 Main Street, Baton Rouge, LA followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30am. A family burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in New Iberia at 10:00 am Monday May 23, 2022
