On September 15, 2021, Esther J. (Padgitt) Cheesman, 88, of Arcadia, Florida went to her Heavenly home.
Esther was born in Rensselaer, Indiana on January 19, 1933 to the late Thomas A. and Louisa Michael Padgitt. She married William J. Albertson on February 16, 1951. The couple had 5 children before William's death in 1961.
On May 28, 1966 she married Harold Leroy Cheesman, Jr. They raised 6 children together and were married for 55 years.
Esther was a Godly woman who loved the Lord and her family. She was a student of the Bible and she read the entire Bible every year. When her eyesight worsened, she listened to her electronic Bible, as she was in her passing.
Throughout her youth, Esther gained a love for gardening and preserving food with her mother and great grandmother. As a mother, she spent countless hours canning vegetables during the summer months for her family.
Esther was quick-witted and had a wonderful sense of humor. She had a competitive spirit and enjoyed playing card and board games with her family. She kept an Aggravation game close at hand and would challenge anyone who, as she said, "Was ready to get beat." Esther became the family's first gamer, beating The Legend of Zelda video game several times. Her other hobbies included reading, knitting, and politics.
Esther had a loving heart and a passion for caring for the elderly. She worked as a CNA for St. Elizabeth Hospital and nursing homes in the Lafayette, Indiana area for many years. She and her husband moved to Arcadia, Florida in 1993.
Esther's life motto was, "I am a strong woman," and indeed she was. She raised 6 strong, confident children and taught them to believe in themselves. She was an amazing wife and mother who was proud of her family and leaves them with beautiful memories.
Esther is survived by her husband Harold and 5 children, Steve (Jan) Albertson of Lafayette, Peggy Reid of Lafayette, Sue (Tim) DeLong of Clarks Hill, Bill (Bobbie) Albertson, of Lafayette, Ben (Mary) Mull of Reynolds, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son David Albertson, grandsons Shane and Timothy Albertson, great-grandson Caleb Albertson, and her brother Thomas A. Padgitt.
A Memorial Service celebrating Esther's life will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at the Brown Street United Methodist Church in Lafayette, Indiana at 11:30 a.m. with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests memorial donations to Home with Hope, 1119 Ferry St., Lafayette, Indiana 47901 in Esther's name.
