Gerald Joseph Smith, of Bensalem, passed away Monday, May 23, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was 92.

Jerry was the beloved husband of 67 years to Maria Garcia Smith.

Born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Elizabeth Habermehl Smith and the father of the late Terri Horner.

Jerry was a former resident of Roslyn for over 25 years before moving to Bensalem. He was a proud veteran serving our county in the United States Navy. He was a graduate of Atlantic City High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering-Power from Drexel University as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Beaver College. Jerry was a registered Professional Engineer who had worked with various companies throughout his career. He was employed by the Bombardier Corporation as an Engineering Specialist in their Mass Transit Division. He also had worked as an Electrical Design Engineer with Transit America Inc (formerly known as the Budd Company). In his earlier years, he had worked with Philco Corporation and also Philco-Ford as a Field Engineer and a Project Engineer, and also with Ford Aerospace and Communications as a Research and Development Engineer. In his leisure time, Jerry enjoyed woodworking and dedicated countless hours to family genealogy. He loved to challenge himself daily with crossword and sudoku puzzles. He was a quiet man but loved to be surrounded by his large family. Jerry will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all and will be deeply missed.

In addition to his wife Maria, he is survived by his cherished children Patty and her husband David Westerfer, Betty Smith Durepos, Kay and her husband Tim Long, Chico and his wife Celeste Smith, Peggy and her husband Greg Cuneen, and his son in law Kenny Horner. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Zach Westerfer, Jason Horner, Kenneth Horner, and his wife Claire Fisher, Drew Durepos, Clare Durepos, Lucy Durepos, Kristen Long, Kelsey Long, Allie Long, Shawn Cuneen, and Julie Cuneen.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation Tuesday, June 7, 2022, from 11:00 AM until his Funeral Mass at 12:00 PM in St. Ephrem Church, 5400 Hulmeville Road. Bensalem PA 19020. Jerry's interment will follow with full Military Honors at 2:30 PM in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940.
