He was reportedly appointed by Governor Johnson as his aide-de-camp, and also served on the staff of Gen. Bennett with the rank of colonel. He was a resident of Philadelphia, and a partner with his nephews John H. Chambers and Andrew Cattell in the firm of Chambers & Cattell, leather merchants.
