DR. ALEXANDER MICHAEL NEIDHARDT, III
April 2, 1950 - May 24, 2022

Age 72, of Sturbridge, MA went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 24, 2022. He was born on April 2, 1950 in Pittsburgh, PA to Alexander II and Mary Jane (Kunkel) Neidhardt. He attended Avonworth High School, then obtained his Bachelor's Degree at The University of Pittsburgh and went on to earn his DDS in Dentistry from Temple University. In 1976, Alex married Leslie Muenzberg (Sturbridge, MA) and together they had two children. Leslie passed away October 8, 2002. Alex found love again, and married Helen (Wagher) Neidhardt. Alex, or Dr. Neidhardt, had a long and illustrious career as a general dentist at his practice in Southbridge, MA where he dedicated himself to the quality and personal care of his patients for 35 years. Alex, a devoted Christian served as a Deacon of the Faith Baptist Church. Among other philanthropic and community services, he served as a board member of the Southbridge YMCA, corporator at Southbridge Savings Bank, and staff member and corporator at Harrington Memorial Hospital. Alex, or often "Augi", was known for his heart of gold, infectious optimism, unwavering faith, and corny jokes. He specialized in inside jokes to make those he loved feel special. Depending on the weather and the season, Alex would be actively pursuing one of his many hobbies which included but were not limited to windsurfing, playing guitar, hunting, working out, or meticulously maintaining his lawn. His diagnosis of Parkinson's disease may have impacted some of these pursuits in recent years, but never his perseverance, passion, or grace. As a founding member of the Wee Jams in 1964, he loved to relive his days as a band member with a still active following in the Pittsburgh area. Alex played the guitar, trumpet, and whistle with the band. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and many friends. As a father and grandfather, Alex supported and loved unconditionally. Family visits always included some sort of physical activity, whether it was a game of ping pong or a quiet hike in the woods at their beautiful farm in Woodstock, CT. In addition to his wife Helen, Alex is survived by his loving sisters, Carole Sharp of Colorado, Marianne White of Pittsburgh, and Susan Candela of Gaines,PA; his devoted son, Adam Neidhardt and daughter-in-law, Molly (O'Brien) of Beverly; his step-children, Joe and Michelle Szela of Oxford, Mark and Kelly Szela of Charlton and Cheri Goulet of Thompson, CT. Alex's legacy will live on with his eight amazing grandchildren, Jackson and Sam Neidhardt, Joey and Matthew Szela, and Trent, Reid, Shayley, and Gage Szela. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Sue Muenzberg of Sturbridge, and Sue (Muenzberg) and Steve Nasca of Medway, MA. Through the extended Muenzberg, White, Hamill, and Wagher family, "Uncle Aug" had many nieces and nephews across the country who will miss his presence dearly. Alex lived his faith, never faltering by honoring our great God. Timothy 4:7-8 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing". Alex, may you find the Lord in love and peace, and we will see you in Heaven soon. His funeral will be held on Thursday, June 2nd, at 10:00 am in the Evangelical Covenant Church, 24 Child Hill Rd., Woodstock, CT. Burial will follow in Woodstock Central Cemetery, Woodstock, CT. Calling hours for Alex will be held on Wednesday, June 1st, in the DANIEL T. MORRILL FUNERAL HOME, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
