Gene Richard Carpenter, age 87 of Sevierville passed away Saturday May 28, 2022. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Sevierville where he spent many years serving in the 5 year old Sunday School class. He was an ordained deacon. He was retired from Federal Highway Administration as engineering technician. He was a member and former president of NARFE (Retired Federal Employees). He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the time he spent on the course with his golfing buddies. He never missed an opportunity to share with all who knew him about his love for Notre Dame Football.

Gene was born in South Bend, Indiana and graduated high school in Florence, Alabama. He received an Associate Degree in Accounting, studied Civil Engineering at the University of Tennessee.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Beryl Carpenter; sister, Doris Korreckt; brother, Rex Carpenter; first wife, Nelle Carpenter; son, Anthony Carpenter; sister-in-law, Lola Moon; brother-in-law, Larry Beck.

He is survived by his wife, Annette Carpenter; sons, Richard Carpenter, Terry Carpenter and wife Rhonda, Tom Carpenter; Paula Carpenter; step-son, Tony Watson; step-daughter, Jeannie Burnett and husband Dwight; grandchildren, Brad Carpenter and wife Melissa, Blair Carpenter; step granddaughter, Audrey Hollingsworth and husband Corbitt; great grandchildren, Paisley, Sawyer, Grayson, and Willow Carpenter; step great granddaughter, Emery Hollingsworth; sisters-in-law Charlene Carpenter, Bonnie Beck; brothers-in-law Kenneth Moon, Ray Beck and wife Louise, Charles Beck and wife Debbie.

A special "thank you" to his caregiver Steve Striebig and the wonderful staff at Dominion Senior Care.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Sevierville Preschool Department, 317 Parkway, Sevierville, TN.

The family will receive friends from 5-6:45PM Tuesday May 31st at First Baptist Church, Sevierville with service to follow at 7PM. Rev. Carroll Golden and Rev. Dan Spencer will be officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11AM Wednesday for the graveside service at Smoky Mtn Memory Gardens. Arrangements by Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
