Obituary of Betty Jane Maes Ramey
Betty died on July 28, 2019 at her home in Canby, Oregon. She was born in Portland, Oregon to parents Lloyd and Gertrude Maes on November 5, 1923. She attended schools in Portland and graduated from Canby Union High School in 1941. In 1943 she enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Women's Reserve and served at Camp Pendleton in California until 1946. In May 1946 she married Wallace Ramey. Betty retired from Westinghouse Corporation after 31 years and actively participated with charitable activities in the Canby American Legion and Canby American Legion Auxiliary over 60 years, serving in many roles including Commander, President, Adjutant, Judge Advocate, and various committee positions at Department, District, Post and Unit levels. Betty is survived by her children; Richard, Roberta, and Daniel; four grandsons; four granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Jean Moore. The family and friends will have a celebration of Life on September 14, 2019 at Canby American Legion Post 122 locate at 424 NW First Avenue, Canby, OR from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, any donations be made to the American Legion Auxiliary Unity 122 Foundation at 3929 Pringle Rd. SE, Salem, OR 97032.
