Thomas Willie Jenkins affectionately known as "T.W." was born April 15, 1925 and departed from life on May 25, 2022 at the age of 97.
He was the first born son to the late Peyton and Sophia (Preston) Jenkins.
He was educated in Screven County and attended the Staley Grove School until he left to support his mother and the household.
As a young child he was a farm hand on Sammy Jenkins farm, worked for Charlie Sheffield and Jimmy and Mary Callison until he became employed at Claude Howard Lumber Company in 1975. He retired when he was no longer able to work.
He was a dedicated heavy equipment operator who had a love for "Bulldozers". He was also instrumental in recruiting for employment at the company.
One of his greatest accomplishments was working on construction on Hilton Head Island in 1983.
At an early age he joined the Asbury A.M.E. Church where he served faithfully on the Trustee and Steward boards. He was devoted to his church and worked tirelessly to ensure the needs of the church was met.
"T.W." wore many hats and possessed many skills. He was a caregiver, wonderful father, grandfather, brother and provider to family and anyone in need. He loved gardening, hunting and was an avid mechanic with a passion for repairing lawn mowers and cars. He also loved growing scuppernongs, and was known as "The Juice Man" for making his lemonade. His favorite saying was, "If I borrowed it once, the second time I would have my own."
T.W. Jenkins was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers: Matthew Jenkins, Norman Jenkins, Ulysee Jenkins, Linwill Jenkins, Julius Jenkins, Roosevelt Jenkins, and James Jenkins. Seven Sisters: Cassie Albright, Frances Roberts, Alberta Jenkins, Annie Pearl Jenkins, Minnie Green, Dessie Drayton, and Rev Rachael Jenkins, one son, Willie Jenkins Jr, And two grandsons Johntay Smith and Jawan Jenkins.
He leaves to cherish his memories four sisters: Adell Jenkins, Maudine Albright, Eula Sears and Carrie Brown. His Children: Lonnie Jenkins, Paul (Latrese) Jenkins, and Willie Mae (John*) Jackson all of Savannah Ga, Paten (Jamie)Jenkins of Port Wentworth GA, Thomas Jenkins and Sophia (Adam) Barnes ** (devoted caregiver) both of Sylvania GA, Lartreye (John) Smith of Miami FL, and Melvin Roberson of Statesboro, and a special niece Elizabeth Ingram, Thirteen Grandchildren: Keyona Jenkins, Tigust Jenkins, Vivian Anderson, Rokeyia Branch, Mignone Ferguson, Shantae Wright, Synetra Roberson, Tierra Roberson, Leniya Roberson, Eric Jenkins, Caribe Barnes, Melvin Roberson Jr, and Kanari Jenkins, and Thirty-Two Great grandchildren.
