Mary Ann Post Morris

After 91 years on this earth Mary Ann Post Morris left us May 26, 2022. She died of natural causes and is now in the presence of her savior Jesus Christ.

Mary was born in Abilene, Texas to Daniel Herman Post and Mary Pearl Gladden Post on September 5, 1930. Mary Ann arrived five minutes before her twin sister, Betty Dan.

Mary grew up in Abilene, graduated from Abilene Christian High School, and attended Hardin Simmons College, graduating with a major in Commercial Art.

During her college years, while waiting tables in her father's restaurant, she met the love of her life, William (Bill) John Morris, Jr. Bill was drafted into the Army soon after he graduated from Hardin Simmons, with a degree in Business, and stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas. The couple became engaged and decided to marry because Bill was about to be transferred to Korea.

But the "stars aligned", the opportunity presented itself, and Bill was able to get leave. Mary hopped a train to Manhattan, Kansas. On January 8, 1953, pastor C.C. Cody performed the marriage ceremony in his living room.

Providence intervened and Bill did not go to Korea. The newlyweds lived at Ft. Benjamin, Indiana and Mary became pregnant. As delivery time neared, Bill sent Mary back to Abilene so their firstborn, Nancy, would be a native Texan.

Mary was an accomplished artist with both oil and watercolors. She was prolific in calligraphy and used her skills while working in the Development Department at UNT and taught calligraphy classes as a member of the Denton Art League. She volunteered at First Baptist Church Denton teaching the English language to Chinese students, teaching Sunday school classes, and was involved with WMU. Mary loved singing in the choir, and she was always available to put her artistic talents to use. Mary always had a quick smile and never met a stranger.

Mary and Betty loved attending the International Twins Association Conventions where they won numerous awards for their costumes and for looking the most alike. In 1999 they were elected Co-Presidents of ITA and were responsible for organizing the convention held in New Orleans.

Mary was an outstanding cook, and her pecan pies were the highlight of many-a Thanksgiving celebration. To this day there is consternation among family members over who ate the last piece of pecan pie. Mary and Bill loved to tour and traveled extensively throughout the U.S.A. They made several very special trips to Alaska with their dear friends Bill & Norma Campbell. They also enjoyed trips to England, Scotland, and an especially memorable excursion to the Holy Lands.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, William (Bill) John Morris, Jr. She is survived by her children, Nancy Wallis and spouse David Wallis, Marilyn (Lyn) Travis and spouse Terry Travis, William John Morris III and spouse Rosa. Mary has five grandchildren, Heather McLendon, D.J. Wallis, Brett Travis, and Jordan Travis, and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 30, 2022 at 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM following the visitation with Dr. John Beck Officiating.

Interment will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Knippa Cemetery in Knippa, Texas.

Family and friends anticipate a glorious reunion with Mary. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to Samaritans Purse in honor of Mary.
