Roberta was born in St. John's Newfoundland, Canada 4 November 1939 She attended Mc Phearson academy and received her R.N.from the General Hospital in St. John's. She received the Gold Award which allowed her to further her psychiatric training at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, Canada. She was sponsored by the Salt Lake County Hospital entering the United States in 1963 and soon was head nurse on 2 West at the new University Medical Hospital. It was there she met her future husband, Richard H. Odell who was a student at the time.
She had two sons: David H.Odell, M.D. (Cassie) and Richard Kelly Odell, J.D.,R.N. (Olya.) She has three Grand Children: Elizabeth, Jeremy and Katherine.
Roberta had many church callings, but her favorite was Cub Scout Den leader and she enjoyed watching the young men grow into leaders of the community. She served 4 years on the Silver Fork water board.
Having two sons, she realized she would be left out unless she participated in their activities. So, she skied, hiked, took karate lessons and camped with them including fifteen back packing trips across the Grand Canyon. Her favorite hike was the frequent full moon hikes from Brighton to Park City.
She was proud of her Newfoundland-Canadian heritage and never gave up her Canadian citizenship. Her island home was:
"The Roots of My Spirit"
I have flown with the seagulls and
Fished the waters of the cove. I have
Walked on the beaches and stood
As one with the trees. I have watched
The sun secretly rise above the hills and
Gently rest behind our island.
The roots of my spirit are in this place.
My Island, My Home!
