David Matthew (Matt) Freeman, 48, of Marina Del Ray, California passed away on April 25, 2022 in Los Angeles, California.

Matt was born March 9, 1974 in Midland, Texas the son of David B. Freeman and Katherine (Morris) Geeslin. He attended Midland public schools until the middle of his Freshman year, then relocated to Lubbock, Texas. While in Midland, Matt was active in youth sports, primarily baseball and football. He attended Rusk Elementary, Goddard Jr. High and Midland Freshman schools. In Lubbock, he gave up sports for his passion, which was acting. He was awarded numerous UIL awards for Best Cast and Best Actor at the District level, and one award for Best actor in UIL Area Competition. Upon graduation from Monterey High School in 1992, Matt attended Texas Tech University graduating in 1997 with a BS degree in Political Science, then attended law school at South Texas College of Law in Houston, obtaining his Law Degree in May of 2000 and later that year was admitted to the Texas State Bar.

While at Texas Tech, Matt was a very active member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and was elected Rush Chairman for the 1995 fall semester. He later played a key role in the organization and fundraising for a new lodge for the fraternity and was later named chapter President. He was also very active in student government being elected as the Internal Vice President of the Student Association his junior year and was runner-up in the Presidential election the following year. Although he did not participate in Drama at college, he did volunteer performances at local theatres in Lubbock while attending Texas Tech.

At South Texas College of Law, he was a member of Phi Delta Phi's Order of the Barristers and was a key member of the school's Moot Court competition team. He received the Dean's Outstanding Student Advocate award and Scribes award in 2000. In competitions, Matt was a National Finalist in the National Criminal Procedure Moot Court Competition in 1999 and American Bar Association Appellate Advocacy Competition in 2000. He was a Regional Champion and Best Advocate in the National Moot Court Competition for the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and quarterfinalist in 1999-2000.

He practiced law in the Houston area for several years forming Matt Freeman & Associates LLP before moving to Los Angeles. Matt had a strong desire to help others, and his practice was primarily focused on personal injury but also handled business litigation and criminal defense.

In Los Angeles, Matt focused on acting and was involved in several small productions, as well as, a small role in "Ford vs Ferrari" released in 2019, and enjoyed performing standup comedy at local comedy clubs, as he loved to make people laugh.

He was preceded in death by his step-father Ken Geeslin of Athens, Texas, paternal grandparents James and Sybil Freeman of Blue Ridge, Texas, maternal grandfather Hoyle Kruse of Midland, Texas, and his uncle Leon Morris of Snyder, Texas.

He is survived by his mother Katherine Geeslin of Athens, Texas, father David B. Freeman and wife Pamela of Midland, Texas; sisters Malia James of Los Angeles, California and Jade Ogden of Midland, Texas; four children, Sidney, Sarah, Cosmos and Cosima, his maternal grandmother Earleen Pine of Midland, cousins Jaclyn Morris, Brandon Morris, Tracie Morris Elam, Debra Morris Harmon, Carolyn Morris Rylander Sutton, Robert Troup, James Troup, Teresa Troup Johnson, Perry and Juanita Smith, Teresa Smith Sumrall, Perry Smith Jr., Ronnie Smith, Danny Flowers, Lou Ellen Flowers Berry, Patricia Flowers Scott, Will & Shannon Traxson family, William G. Whittenberg, Jr., Marion Whittenberg McLendon, Michele Richardson, Brian Richardson, Aimee Barlow and Ira Freeman, and numerous aunts, uncles, other family and close friends.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Resthaven North Memorial Park, mausoleum chapel, located at 3800 N. Big Spring Street, Midland, TX 79705.
