William E. "Bill" Nelson, 74, of Columbia formerly of
Moberly, was called home May 25, 2022 surrounded by loved ones following a brain injury. He was born to the union of William E. and Margie (Watt) Nelson, August 6, 1947, in Moberly, Missouri.

He was proceeded in death by his wife Edna Murray-Nelson, his parents, and grandparents. He is survived by his children Mark Allen Nelson of Charleston, WV and Carri L Murray of Columbia, MO. Two granddaughters, Alexandria Paige McBride, and Mercedes Lynn Snyder.

Bill was a big fan of music of all different genres. His music collection has always needed its own room to be housed in. He enjoyed going to concerts and traveling to different flea markets. More then anything he loved his family and worked very hard all of his life to provide for them. Especially his granddaughter Alex whom he was so proud of. His wallet still held her "thank you for being my grandpa" picture.

Bill served as a medic in the US Army and a honorably discharged veteran of the Vietnam war having been awarded the purple heart. After coming home from the war he entered nursing and continued to serve his fellow Veterans at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He retired from there with 38 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the VFW post 280.

To honor Bill's love and service to his fellow Veterans, memorials are suggested to the Central Missouri Honor Flight, DAV, VFW, or your favorite veteran service organization.

Funeral services and Military Honors celebrating Bill's life were held graveside at the Oakland Cemetery. Committal prayer and burial followed. Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation held prior to the services in the Cater Funeral Home Chapel.
