Our dear Johnny-husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and US veteran-passed away in his sleep May 23, 2022 of heart failure. Born on April 14, 1946 in Baltimore, MD, Johnny spent his formative years in Natick, MA, Fort Worth, TX and Palos Verdes (PV), CA. He graduated from PV High class of 1964 before joining the US Army and serving his country in South Korea. As a veteran of the United States, Johnny remained patriotic and politically active throughout his life. When he returned to the states, Johnny traded the first love of his life, his Triumph Bonneville 650 motorcycle for the best love of his life, Melanie Donald. They married March 14, 1970 and in time they had three boys: John (VI), Josh and Joey. Johnny and Melanie shared a 52-year loving marriage and recently celebrated their 50-year wedding anniversary together in Hawaii. Johnny had a career working for Vons grocery stores in management before seeking freedom on the open road driving grocery trucks. In the early 1990's, the family left Southern California for the Puget Sound and eventually settled in Yelm, WA. Johnny worked as a Teamster at the Port of Tacoma before happily retiring in 2011. Johnny had a lifelong fascination with aviation and trains. In his younger years, he learned to fly and piloted a Cessna 172 in the Los Angeles area. In retirement, he enjoyed HO-scale model railroading and built a miniature train replica of Archer City, Texas in his back room. Johnny enjoyed coffee chats and adventuring around the local area during his retirement with his best friend, Mike Gotto. Johnny and Melanie also enjoyed their time in CA and WA with Melanie's twin sister, Debbie and her husband, Mike Cunningham. Johnny was graced with three wonderful daughters-in-law, Ona, Beth and Ibby, and became a grandfather to six grandchildren, Raechel, Jacob, Sarah, John (VII), Aliyah and Piper. Johnny truly had a heart of gold and a million-dollar smile and was a friend to everyone he knew. Johnny and Melanie first met in the Rolling Hills United Methodist Youth Group and remained strong in the Christian faith their whole life. Johnny was surrounded by loved ones and in the care of his family leading up to his passing when he crossed the threshold of life to rejoin those who preceded him in death-his loving parents, John (IV) and Evelyn Archer, and his younger brother, Nathan. In addition to his wife, children and their wives and grandchildren, he is survived by his siblings Julie-Eleanor, Philip and Rosemary. Johnny's smile and bright outlook on life and humanity will be missed by us all until the time we are rejoined in heaven.

A memorial service in Puyallup, WA and a private family burial at the Tahoma National Military Cemetery have been arranged for June 8-9, 2022.
