William W. "Bill" Yates, age 91, went home to the Lord at 11:58 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2022, with his family by his side.

Bill was born April 30, 1931 in Iroquois, SD, to the late Virgil and Margaret (Hayes) Yates.

On November 12, 1955 he married the love of his life, Edith Elaine (Hartinger) Yates who preceded him in death on June 28, 2013.

Bill was a 1949 graduate of Mobridge High School, Mobridge SD and proudly served in the United States Army.

He received his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and his Master's Degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Bill retired from Westinghouse after many years of service. He loved the outdoors, crossword puzzles, jogging when he was younger and he was an avid golfer.

He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and his greatest joy was his family. He especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and his furry friends, Miss Gray, Trooper and Jeter.

He is survived by his two daughters, Kathleen (Bryan) Burkholder of Lima and Natalie (Josh) Othniel of Independence, KS; seven grandchildren, Nathan (Laura) Burkholder, Nick (McKenzie Clapp) Burkholder, Noah (Meagan) Burkholder, Nolan (Kristina Bair) Burkholder, Ephraim Othniel, Ben (Michalah) Othniel and Arielle (Patrick) Gustafson; ten great-grandchildren, Claire and Lucy Burkholder, Emma Burkholder, Katherine Burkholder, Nehemiah, Laylie and Anaiah Othniel, Samuel, Aubrey and Vivian Gustafson; sister, Bonnie Beer of Rapid City, SD; sister-in-law, Laurine Yates of Mobridge, SD and many special nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a son, Timothy Yates; granddaughter, Aimee Burkholder; brother, Robert Yates and sister, Betty (John) Litschewski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022, at St. Rose Catholic Church, 523 N. West St, Lima, Ohio 45801. Father David Ross will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Gethsemani Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 27, at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 28, prior to the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rose Catholic Church.
