Steven Lee Jones, 50, of Covington, GA , passed away in Savannah, GA, on Friday, March 4, 2022. Steve was born in Austin, MN, April 27, 1971, to Lellen (Buck) and Carol (Steinberg) Jones. The family transferred to Atlanta, GA, with George A. Hormel Co. in August, 1979, living in Stone Mountain, Ga. There Steve and his brother, Jason, attended school in Stone Mountain, GA. Later the family moved to Covington, GA, and Steve started his own auto mechanic business at age 18. He was employed by Kentec Corporation for several years doing his mechanic work in his spare time. His cliental grew quickly and he enjoyed his many customers he had so moved to a larger shop on Sunbelt Parkway in Covington, where he remained until the pandemic hit and his business suffered along with his health. So he closed his business, and moved back to Austin, MN, in 2021, where most of his relatives live in St. Ansgar, IA and Austin, MN. He didn't like the cold weather in the Midwest, so after 3 months, he went back to GA where he passed away.
Steve married Toby Hendricks in 2009, and helped her raise her children Chris, Haley and Madison. They later divorced. Her children were very special to Steve.
Steve is survived by his mom, Carol Jones of Austin, MN, his brother, Jason, wife Rosemary and children Alianna and Noah, of Nashville, TN, half -sisters, Wendy and Jann near Fairmont, MN, an uncle, Bob Jones of Rockford, IL, two uncles, Fred and Dave Steinberg, wives Karen and Elaine, many cousins in St. Ansgar, IA, and Austin, MN, and friends in Covington, GA.
Steve was preceded in death by a half- brother. Wade, his father Lellen (Buck) Jones, his grandparents, John and Dorothy Jones, Ed andMaxine Steinberg, aunt, Nicki Jones, cousin's husband, Wade Machin.
Steve had a love of cars so he had many race cars that he worked on and drag raced over the years, and took pride in them all. He also loved his dogs with Hot Rod and Sassy being his last two that he missed after they passed. May you rest in peace, Steve.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Steve in Covington, GA for all his friends in GA on June 5 at 5 O'Clock Bar from 12:30-3:00 Sunday. A private family graveside service will be held in July, 2022 at Grandview Cemetery in Austin, MN.
