Donald Dean Pannier, our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather "Paca" passed away peacefully at his home, in Taylorsville, Utah on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at the age of 89. Don was born on December 15, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Vera Soderberg and Karl Arthur Pannier, the youngest of four children.
Don attended college in California where he received training to become a draftsman and went on to work for Hercules for 33 years from 1959 to 1992 until he retired. He met Marianne Sorensen on a blind date and they were married July 28,1955, and sealed one year later in the Los Angeles Temple. Don and Marianne were blessed with four children.
Don was a gentle soul who was as authentic as they come. He was a man purely without guile, never had a hidden agenda, and instantly became a friend to everyone he met. He figured out the secret of life, to love and accept himself and others as they are. Don loved gardening, hunting, fishing, making crafts - especially carving wooden walking sticks - drinking diet Dr. Pepper, watching old movies, and spending time at the Taylorsville Senior Center where he had many friends. His greatest loves however were flying, scouting, God and family. He served in the scouting program for 50 years and received the distinguished Silver Beaver award. He was a proud patriotic veteran who served in the 12th Naval District in the Korean war on the aircraft carrier USS Essex. He never lost his passion for airplanes and always carried his pilot's license in his wallet.
He was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings throughout his life. He was a beloved father and grandfather of four children, ten grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; his wife Marianne; and his infant daughter, Vikiane.
He is survived by his children Donalynn (Brad) Carter, Salt Lake City, Utah, Marylynne (Jody) Rich, Hurricane, Utah, Greg (Tricia) Pannier, Murray, Utah; ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Taylorsville North Stake Center, 1250 West Atherton Drive, Taylorsville, Utah, on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. A viewing will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 am, and a funeral will follow at 11:15 am. Interment at Murray City Cemetery.
