Charles Sumner Walker, Jr., age 93, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away on, May 20, 2022 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. He was born February 26, 1929 in Battle Creek, the son of Dr. Charles S. Sr. and Manuella B. (Beck) Walker. Charles graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1947. He attended O'Neil College of Chiropractic in Ft. Wayne, IN and Michigan State University. Charles was enlisted into the United States Army on November 25, 1950. After he was honorably discharged, Charles began his career at the Battle Creek Post Office where he proudly served the community for 31 years. Charles was also employed at the Regional Medical Lab and the Battle Creek VA Hospital as an Aide. He married the love of his life, Katherine (Humphrey) Walker on August 31, 1957.

He enjoyed being involved with the City of Battle Creek Recreation, and coaching where he had open gym at Lincoln School in the mid 60's and 70's. Charles enjoyed bowling, swimming, card nights, breakfast with the boys, watching all of his favorite sports teams, and westerns.

Charles was incredibly active, and dedicated over the years as a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E Church. He was very charitable with his time and served many years with his support of projects at the church. Charles was a long serving member of the Trustee Board, President of the Usher Board, worked on the Stewardship and Finance Committee, enjoyed working in the Finance Room, and served faithfully/diligently with all of his duties. He loved driving the Church Van to many church functions and coached the Mt. Zion Basketball Team. Charles loved singing in the Men's Choir and always faithfully attended Men's Bible Study. He made many friends and loved his Church Family during his tenure at the church. Charles will best be remembered for his fellowship, loyalty, commitment, and willingness of his faith to serve his Church. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived his children, (3 sons) Charles S. Walker III, R. Douglas Walker, and Tracey Scott Walker, one daughter, Terri Lynn Walker; 9 grandchildren, Jamar Walker, Damon Fitzpatrick II, Autumn Johnson, Nicole Walker, Shanele Walker, Mark Pointer, Megan Randall, and Jayden Walker; 18 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sister-in-laws, Jackie (Joel) Lathum and Joan Walker; with an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine; his father, Dr. Charles S. Sr.; mother, Manuella B. (Beck) Walker; brother, Dr. Lorenzo Walker; daughter, Toni Walker; and brother-in-law, James Humphrey.
