In 2002 he was united in marriage to Katie Thompson in Hawaii.
As a young man, he joined Young Life, which began a long, faithful journey in ministry. After marriage to Katie, the couple moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where they attended Brentwood Baptist Church, and Columbia, Missouri, where they attended The Crossing.
Toward the end of his faithful service, he trained lay pastors primarily in Asia with Mission Catalyst International.
Outside of the church Gary loved watching sports, clipping and collecting coupons, grocery shopping, traveling the US and the world, attending orchestral performances and cooking.
He was an avid reader of Christian books, loved his dogs, family and his faith.
Gary was full of life and energy, loved to smile and laugh, and engaged in conversations with people everywhere he went.
