Vickie was born in Rockford, Illinois on February 17, 1956. She attended Rockford Memorial High School, where she enjoyed her time as cheerleader and excelled as a student. She moved to Tuscumbia, Alabama where she attended the University of Northern Alabama and received her PHD in Psychology. After school she moved back to Illinois where she met and married Tim Nelson on October 2, 2003. In October of 2004 they moved to Minnesota and settled in Aitkin, Minnesota.
Vickie loved to garden and do arts and crafts. She enjoyed doing puzzles and playing board games. She had fond memories of beating the boys in softball on the field next to the house where she grew up and shooting baskets with her friends. She enjoyed fishing and raising wolves and wolf hybrids. She spent her life advocating for children's rights.
She is preceded in death by her mother Velma (Bryant) Olson, stepbrother Kenny Olson, father James Robert Baker and special aunt Tassy, who always treated her more like a daughter than a niece, and many aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her husband Tim Nelson of Aitkin, sons; John Grip of Fargo, ND, Pastor Curtis Pixler and family of Tallapoosa, GA, brother James (Rose) Baker of Tuscumbia, AL, stepsisters; Bonnie (Olson) Tessendorf and Wendy (Olson) Hoffman and their families all of Rockford, IL.
