Grant Oliver Farness, 92, of Clearwater, Minn., and most recently of Annandale Care Center died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, in St. Cloud Hospital.

He was born May 24, 1905, in Appleton, Minn., to the late John T. and Carrie (Iverson) Farness. When he was young, his parents moved and homesteaded in Keene, N.D., where Grant went to the Dodge School and the family lived in a sod house. On Oct. 14, 1940, he married Martha Ekstrand in Duluth and they lived in Duluth until after World War II. During this time, Grant worked and wired on ships used in the war. When they moved to Minneapolis in the late 1940s he joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and prior to retirement worked for Gopher Electric on many buildings in the Twin Cities area. They moved to Clearwater in 1975.

He was a member of Rejoice Lutheran Church in Clearwater, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Martha of Annandale Care Center; a son Joel (Patty) Farness of Clearwater; a daughter, Laura (Robert) Carlson of Aurora, Colo.; five grandchildren; brother and sisters Lawrence Farness, Lillian Carlson and Helen Farness, all of Duluth; and Florence Johnson of Fertile.

Services: were Feb. 4 in Rejoice Lutheran Church in Clearwater. Burial in Mount Hope Cemetery in Clearwater.
