Ronald Dale "Ron" Adams, 83, of Monett, passed away on Monday, Jan. 31, 2022 at his residence following several months of ill health.
Adams was born on Aug. 6, 1938 in Eminence, son of the late Purvis Perry Barks and Onetta Elsie (Johnson) Barks. Shortly after graduation, he served his country honorably, first in the Army National Guard and then in the United States Navy, being honorably discharged on July 24, 1963. He earned his bachelor's degree from Mt. Vernon Bible College in Mt. Vernon, Ohio.
On July 18, 1959 in East St. Louis, Ill., Adams was united in marriage to Vernice Blyzes. They were together for over 62 years.
He was a pastor from 1974 to 1998. He began at the Foursquare Church in Overland, then Shreveport, La. and finally in Joplin. He had also been a director for the Monett Area Sheltered Workshop.
Adams is survived by his wife, Vernice, of the home; two sons, Scott Adams, and Mark Adams, ; two daughters, Rhonda Coss,. and Robyn Hobson (Mike), .; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; as well as his aunt, Betty Ferguson.
Adams was preceded in death by one sister, Debra Durand.
Memorial services were at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022 at the Monett Church of the Nazarene. Visitation was at 1 p.m. prior to the service. Following the services, all were invited for a reception at the church.

Burial and military honors will be held at a later date at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
