Funeral At Roosevelt For Washita County Man
Funeral services for Jackson Walker were held in the school auditorium at
Roosevelt by Rev. Claude Drake, Baptist minister of Oklahoma City, with burial
in the Hobart cemetery.
John Jackson Walker was born Jan. 5, 1869, in Tippah county, Miss. and died
July 16, 1943 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Iva Drake in
Oklahoma City at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 11 days. He came from Clay
county, Texas to Washita county in 1894.
He was united in marriage to Miss Jinnie Lee Rutherford in 1888 and to this
union was born nine children, all surviving. They are Ollie of this place,
Albert and Ross of Roosevelt, Amos, Mrs. Iva Drake, Mrs. Ester Simpson and
Herman of Oklahoma City, Lester of Hobart and Mrs. Eretta Pope of Lone Wolf. He
also leaves 30 grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Haley Basket of Clinton, two
brothers, Jim Walker of Mountain View and Anderson Walker of California.
