Betsy Hardie Bennett, age 87, of Macon, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2022, following a long battle with Alzheimer's.

Born in December of 1934 in Wilkinson County GA, the oldest of five girls, she graduated from Irwinton High School before attending Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville where she earned a two-year degree in education.

After college she moved to Macon, accepting a position at the Macon Telegraph where she met her husband, Howard E. Bennett, a writer and beat reporter for the newspaper. They were married for over forty years until her husband's death in 1998.

Working side by side, the couple founded Bennett Advertising, a local ad agency, as well as the Macon Scene (later renamed the Macon Guide) a weekly magazine.

In later years she was a beloved substitute teacher at the Georgia Academy for the Blind. She was also a dedicated supporter of the Methodist Children's Home and a devoted member of Mulberry Street Methodist Church for her entire adult life.

An avid reader, with a keen interest in politics and world events, she was an unwavering supporter of the civil rights movement and other humanitarian causes. She was also quite possibly the most diehard fan the Atlanta Braves ever had.

Betsy Bennett is survived by two sons and their spouses, four grandchildren and two sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two other sisters.

Visitation is from 3:00 to 5:00 on Sunday, May 22, at Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street in Macon with services set for 1:00 on Monday, May 23, at Mulberry Street Methodist Church in Macon followed by graveside service at Snow Hill Cemetery, Snow Hill Church Rd., Ivey Ga., Wilkinson County.
