John enjoyed bowling, fishing and boating. He was an avid reader, card player; especially euchre and poker. John loved to travel with his wife and family. He was a coach for many years for his children's youth teams. John was a Golden Gloves Boxer. He was an avid sports fan, most importantly of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Toledo Walleye. He looked forward to any time spent with his family and all of his grandchildren. John's smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Kathleen Schroeder; brother, Bill; and sisters, Florence, Bert, Donna and Sharron. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Alvina "Jackie" Schroeder; children, Sandy (Eric) Stallkamp, John (Betsy) Schroeder, and Tina (Richard) Witt; grandchildren, Eric Jr., Sarah, Allison, John III "Trey", Morgan, Zachary, Brendan, Cameron, Alex, Corey, Rylie, and Karly; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Southwest Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900) with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Prayers will begin Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home followed by Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church, 4201 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, OH. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
