Pastor James Douglas Weaver (Doug), met His Lord and Savior face to face on May 21, 2022. We know the Lord said, Well done my good and faithful servant.
Doug was born to the late Frank and Jewell Weaver on October 10, 1943 in Villa Rica Ga. Doug grew up in the housing projects in Villa Rica and was never ashamed of his upbringing. He loved all sports, but was a football fanatic. He was a Wildcat through and through and a die-hard Tennessee Vols fan. He loved to sing Rocky Top to his grandsons to aggravate them.
The Weaver boys all loved to talk football and if you were within a five-mile radius, you could hear them. Doug was especially proud of his brother Clarence, who worked hard and finished college and went on to be a successful businessman despite his physical limitations. He was always proud of his brother Herman who had a successful college and pro football career.
Doug met Gail in 1967 and he knew he had met the love of his life. Gail's daddy was strict so in order to see her more, he went to church with her. In March of 1968, Doug gave his heart and life to Jesus Christ and began his service for the Lord. Doug jumped right into service at Fullerville where he taught Sunday School and was a faithful bus driver in the bus ministry for several years. In 1974, Doug answered his call to preach and was a soldier for the Lord until the day he entered Heaven. Doug worked all of his life toward his final reward. He Pastored nine churches throughout his ministry and had a special love for each church. He had a pastor's heart and loved the church! Doug retired from Pastoring when his health started to fail and ended his many years Pastoring at Draketown Baptist Church. He loved all the churches he Pastored, but Draketown had a very special place in his heart.
Doug loved his wife Gail with all he had. She served faithfully by his side for 54 years. He would always say how much he loved his "precious wife". Doug and Gail were role models for many people throughout the years and without a doubt, Doug loved Gail as Christ loved the church.
Doug loved his children and grandchildren with all his heart. He was so proud of every one of them. He always lit up when he saw one of the grandkids. He left a legacy for his family in his love for the Lord, with two of his grandsons following their grandpa's path by accepting the call to preach.
Besides his parents and in laws, Doug was preceded in death by his brothers, Glen Weaver and Gene Weaver, sister, Marie Weaver, sisters in laws, Carolyn Weaver, Suzy Weaver, Mildred Cohran, Dorothy Bennett and Shirley Moody, brothers in law, Ray Moody and Marvin Hunter. Doug also had 2 precious great grandchildren awaiting him in Heaven, Madelyn Dingler and Baby Dingler.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Gail Weaver. His children, Carla and Melvin Dingler, Jonathan Weaver, and Aaron Gibson. His grandchildren that were the lights of his life, Drew and Jessieca Dingler, Joshua and Ashley Dingler, Taylor Weaver, and Brad Gibson. His brothers Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Weaver and Herman Weaver.
