LONGTIME MCKINLEY LIBRARIAN

A memorial service for Emma T. Bierwagen, a retired librarian for the city of Sacramento, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Christ Unity Church, 9249 Folsom Blvd.

Ms. Bierwagen, 89, died in her home Dec. 24.

The longtime Sacramentan worked as a head librarian at McKinley Branch Library for more than 30 years.

Just before her retirement in the mid-1960's she worked for the public library system as a personnel librarian, where she was responsible for hiring, training and recruiting library staff.

Ms. Bierwagen then worked as the national training director for a nationwide institute that studies the relationship between genetic structure and human behavior.

An active member of Christ Unity Church, she believed in natural living and healing, and grew all of her own organic vegetables.

Born Dec. 19, 1904, in Dresden, N.D., Ms. Bierwagen is survived by sisters, Bertha Bierwagen and Agnes Worthman, both of Grass Valley, and brother, Hans Bierwagen of Wisconsin.
