Harold A. "Popeye" Freeman, 94, of Farmington, departed this earth to be with his bride of 68 years on Friday, May 20, 2022.

Harold married Billie B. Kirby on the 28th of November, 1946 in Vancouver, WA while serving in the U.S. Navy.

They were the proud parents of 4 children: Suzanne Fluharty, Farmington, Michael (Cindy) Freeman, Clarksburg, Deborah (Terry) Meadows, Farmington, and Mark (Pam) Freeman, Fairmont; grandchildren: Katrina Parsons, shelly (Randy) Bland, Raymond (Tammy) Fluharty, Christy (Mark) Wolfe, Mark Freeman, Aubrie Freeman, and Constance Freeman; 18 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Aubrey and Nell workman Freeman, his siblings Aulda Freeman, Louise Dawson, Mildred Freeland, and Lucille Lucdky, his son-in-law Raymond Fluharty, Sr. and his grandson Michael E. Freeman.

Harold was a 50 year member of the Mannington Lodge #31, AF & AM, Scottish Rite of Wheeling, Clarksburg, and Morgantown Rite, Knights Templar in the York Rite, member of the Chapter and Commandry of #6 and #9 in Fairmont, a member of Osiris Temple, Wheeling, former leader of the Monongalia Valley Shrine Club Band.

He competed with area rifle clubs in the National Rifle Association, worked 30 years for Bethlehem Mines Corporation, a master mechanic and supervisor, attended Methodist Churches on East Run and Downs United Methodist for a total of 65 years.

Billie and Popeye loved to travel. They were great fishermen and have the trophies to prove it-flounder from the Eastern Shore, bass from Canada and Lake Erie and Florida.

They loved to fish the piers of the Outer Banks and Kitty hawk. They loved to square and round dance. They went to several Nationals and were State Square Chairmen; the best was being snowbirds in Florida for 30 years.

The family would like to give Amedysis Hospice a special thank you for their care and support and their wonderful nurses for going above and beyond their work.

Friends may call at the Hutson Funeral Home, 3171 Husky Highway, Farmington on Tuesday, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Jones officiating.

Burial will follow at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown where full military honors will be conducted. Mannington Lodge #31, AF & AM will conduct Masonic Graveside Rites.
